Serin had been the bodyguard for rynn's family since before the young one was born. he never aged however he still looked like a youthful twenty something. his silvery eyes seemed to hold inner amusement as he watched a few of the younger children playing and running about. waiting for Rynn was yet another of his chores. Not that he complained the once rambunctious child had matured into a beautiful teenager. her hand was about to be given to Coden the leaders son a handsome cat demon.
"Rynn-chan..." he muttered into the door way waiting for a response. his tall lean body was clothed in a kimono that made him look a little on the feminine side. on his head with in his thick brown hair that was tied in a ponytail was two wolf ears. He was believed to be a wolf demon or even a dog demon. none of the others were sure. Not even he knew his real heritage.

"Just one more minute Serin..." Rynn called from the room, buckling her two sword belts aorund her waist. It was to be a normal adventuring bout into the woods, some lesser demon killing, scouting, a bit of afternoon fun. Rynn was thankful for Serin's company, he was a pleasant person to be around, a constant force in her life. She had loved him like a dear friend, ever since her childhood. Now that Rynn was older, she found him handsome of course, but she had a duty to her family- she had to marry Coden to help the tribe. It did not bother her so much, he was a pleasant cat demon, attractive too. The best a female cat demon could wish for really. They got along, though they were not in love- love could come later.
Serin was to stay with her, watch her children too. There was a plan, and while Rynn was a fiery little cat, having a plan wasn't an issue. She had a life ahead of her, one of dignity and respect, and she could count on that. More than some people could ask for. A few moments later, Rynn walked out of her room and stood facing Serin.
She ran her fingers through her long crimson curls, her emerald eyes smiling at him. Her body was muscular, but slender. Toned. She was strong, that was evident from her stance and her smirk. She opened her full lips to speak "So Serin... you ready to go explore around some before I go off to get married?" Rynn chuckled softly "Of course I still fully intend to explore, but I will be busy for a short while after the wedding." She seemed to have no qualms with the wedding, knowing her entire life that her match to him only made sense. The chief's son always wedded the strongest most beautiful woman in the clan, so that his children would be strong and handsome. And Rynn was that woman. All the village ever talked about was how wonderful their children would be, though Rynn didn't want kids immediately, she certainly was curious too. "Shall we?" She asked, grinning at Serin.

Serin chuckled lightly as he looked at her all decked out all he wore was his kimono no weapons no armor. at first it had seemed odd to the village that such a man was a bodyguard but they soon realized that when he needed to he seemed to have the inane ability to turn anything he touched into a weapon that could cause major damage. he was sometimes referred to in whispers among some of the older clan members as an Inu-kami. It was an old term archaic almost stories were told to children sometimes of strong entities whom took on a the appearance of a dog or wolf demon. this was one of the reasons he had been welcomed by the elders who would have rather turned him away. he put his hands behind his head lightly as he looked at her.
"My you have grown..." he smiled at her. "you're going to make Coden a fine wife...hell you would make anyone a fine wife." he chuckled like he normally did then started to walk.
"Let's get going Rynn-chan" he said lightly.

Rynn smirked as he talked about how fine of a wife she would make. That seemed all that mattered to these people if you were female. How good you could breed. It made some sense, but it still bugged her a little at the back of her mind. Why couldn't she choose her husband? Coden would've been her best choice, but the illusion of love would certainly have been enjoyable. But no, it was all business. "Yes I suppose I shall make a decent wife... that is if Coden can handle me. You of all people should know how hard I am to handle. Perhaps you should give him lessons..." She said with a laugh, nearly skipping off into the forest. "Come now! Let's go have some real fun and forget this stuffy talk of marriage. How boring!"
Rynn soon disappeared through the treeline. Hunting and exploring were likely her only pleasures. She was not one for domestic activities. Where was the fun in cooking or housemanaging? Or hell, being a priestess? None of it struck her as enjoyable. But this, running through the woods, taking down small demons, exploring was more enjoyable than anything else. The wind through her curls and upon he face just thrilled her heart. More than marriage ever could, that was certain.

Serin followed her quickly with a light chuckle he was swift on his feet fast enough to keep up with the cat demon. he hated to admit it but now that she was of marring age he didn't want to give her up to someone else. he had watched her since she was a child. even now he wanted to steal her from her clan.
He knew the feeling were foolish. he had no reason to act like this with her as much as he enjoyed her company and loved to hang around her. she was much to young for him. he had watched her grow up. though it was strange he didn't know why but he never aged never got older. he figured it was just because he was a demon but, how long had he lived here in this place were the cat demons called home. Before this clan was even established. he frowned lightly folowing her.

"Too bad I can't marry you..." Rynn said with a laugh, her usual joking manner with which she regarded Serin. "You would be more fun, I think. Coden is certainly handsome and quite kind, but I dont' think he has the... adventurous viewpoint on life that I have.... you know what I mean?" she asked, thinking nothing of her words. She had joked with Serin about this before.
Although there was a serious tone in her mind- she could very easily be with Serin. She knew him in and out as he knew her, and her was certainly more handsome than Coden- though she'd never say that outloud. Rynn had felt a different sort of regard for Serin for several months now, shortly before her engagement to Coden was made known to her. She had never given it serious consideration- there was no way, she was practically bred to belong to Coden, just as Coden was bred to have her. "This whole cat demon marriage thing is a bit annoying... but I suppose it is the only way to keep the strong warriors at the top. Have the strong marry the strong, so that their children will be strong... I just don't really like being sold off as the best product like a slice of meat. There is more to me than that.." Rynn was mostly rambling, she often opened up to Serin about her thoughts. He would likely have been used to this by now.

"I think Coden realizes this Rynn...you are an extraordinary young woman." he smiled at her his eyes showing his age as he looked at her. He was happy to hear her say that she could marry him but that was foolish for her. She had a very nice match he had watched Coden for nearly as long as he had her and he knew the young man was sensible and kind.
"witch reminds me...your mother wants you back early so you can get ready for the wedding tomorrow" he said lightly to her running a hand through his messy brown hair.

"I know he's a good match... but that doesn't mean I can't wish for a more interesting life than that of a chief's wife. What I shall I spend my days doing? Wishing men luck in war? Watching the village children? Too uneventful for my tastes." Rynn let out a sigh, typical of the teenager she was. "Yes yes I suppose she does want me ready. The day my exciting life ends...." she said sarcastically, casting her emerald eyes to Serin and meeting his gaze. "Ive never asked you this, but why did you decide to bodyguard for a cat demon family anyway? It seems to me you could have done a lot more..."

Serin gave her a odd smile half amused half another deeper emotion that was bubbling under the surface.
"you want the real reason..." he said with a chuckle. "or what I told your parents when I asked for the position" he ran a hand through his hair as he looked at her.

Rynn looked up as he mentioned there were two different reasons. She had never known that. "Both... but the real one first.... I'm much more interested in that one..." She said with a grin, leaning against a tree as she watched him. If Rynn could just stay in this life forever, in the forest, adventuring, no expectations- she'd be forever content.

"I was bored..." he smirked lightly as he crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back onto a tree.
"Theres only so many times you can kill a demon before it gets tedious an boring...so I decided I would use my skills to protect someone else..." he shrugged lightly looking up into the tree he was standing under. "but, I told your parents that I wanted to be a bodyguard because I was strong and wanted to put my abilities to the service of such...important" he said the word with a bit of a smirk.
"Demons as themselves...they were flattered of course" he laughed.

Rynn chuckled softly. "I can't believe they consider it an important matter. I mean... I'm important to them and the clan but in the long run, we are just another cat demon clan in this huge world. We are not samurai, we are not heroes... we are just cat demons..." she cast her eyes up to the sky, thinking about everything all at once. "But I suppose I appreciate having had you around. I am not sure how I feel about these days coming to an end...but I suppose it is now Coden's job to watch out for me..."

Serin looked at her with a mild smile his silvery eyes where light and gentile like a spring brezze. he ran a hand lightly through his hair before he finally spoke.
"Don't think for a minute that just because you are getting married you can get away from our outings" he grinned lightly at her. He knew she was afraid to do this because she didn't want her freedom taken and he hoped his words would sooth her.

Rynn's thoughtful expression turned to a broad smile. "Good... you had better never let me escape from these outings. Ever...." She said with a laugh. And then she ran off into the woods with a laugh, hunting around, looking around.
~~~~~
They had had a good day, but now it was time to start the life Rynn had never asked for. She looked at herself in the looking glass, her hair bouncing in their usual curls, though they should have been in a fancy style. That was tradition, but Rynn had refused. She was not going to change for this man, and the hair was a symbol to her. Her kimono was ornate, red, beautiful, satin. She took a long look, her emerald eyes lacking their sparkle. What did she have to be excited about? It might as well have been a funeral.
Rynn knew it wasn't fair to Coden to think this way, but she couldn't help it. He was handsome yes, and kind. He likely had the same hangups she did, wishing for a calmer cat demon. But this hadn't been his choice either- and that was the only thing they had in common. After another long look into her own eyes, she called out the door. "Serin? I'm.. I'm ready I guess....."
Serin was waiting outside her door and slowly walked in when she stated she was ready. he was in his normal white kimono his hair pulled back the best he could considering how much it hated to listen to him. A few brown strands fell into his silver eyes.
"Well then Rynn" he said with a slight smile offering her his arm. his wolf like ears where perked up showing he was actually being very watchful for anything to ruin this. granted he was still grappling with the fact that if something did show up whether he would stop it or let it ruin the wedding so it would be put off at least a lil longer.
'I should be marrying Serin....' Rynn found herself thinking, forcing her mind to stop as soon as she felt the thoughts come one. What would it do to wish and wish when in half an hour she would be saying 'I do' to Coden and then they would go to the wedding chambers and do what her mother had given her instructions in the night before. That was the worst part, letting him do that to her. How could Rynn simply lie back and have that happen? But it was the way, she had been told, and it was her duty to do it.
Rynn walked slowly with Serin, looking around for some desperate way to hold onto hope that she wouldn't have to go through with this. She was breathing slowly and deeply, trying to clear her mind. Rynn wanted to say some final private words to Serin, but she did not know what to say, her lips could not form the words...
they sooner then he would have liked reached the clearing where the wedding would be held, Seirn looked up at the alter and saw Coden. He was a very handsome cat demon his shaggy brown hair covered his ears lightly his bright blue eyes seemed distracted as he talked with his father the leader. Serin lead rynn slowly towards her not wanting to give her up. the close they got the more it felt like someone was jamming a nail deep into his neck. he looked down at her slowly his eyes soft as he took in her beauty this would be the last time he could shamelessly do so.
"Good luck Rynn-chan" he whispered his voice was harsher then normal. he was having a hard time keeping his emotions in check this was strange for him. infact Serin could only remember being like this once. A long time ago around her. he shook the idea out of his head and smiled in a half hearted manner.
Rynn looked up at Coden, her soon to be husband, but all she felt was a somber sadness fall over her heart. Coden seemed just as distracted at she was, which surprised her little. He didn't want this either. She cast her eyes up at Serin, realizing far too late how much she wanted to keep holding onto his arm forever. Rynn had always felt a draw towards him- once she was old enough to feel those draws- they didn't make much sense to her, but they were there. Then she looked away, watching the ground before her as she felt the impending suffocation of the ceremony upon her.
Her parents were so proud, Coden's too. The village women were all smiles and laughter, thrilled at the occasion. Rynn drew in a breath, stepping up onto the platform. With one last look at Serin's eyes, she released his arm and Coden took her hands as per tradition. Then they were forced to gaze at each other, and each saw the sadness of the day reflected in the other.
Serin stepped back but remained near the alter that was where he belonged even though he would rather be far away dealing with his pent up emotions. his brown hair was slowly coming out of it's ponytail as the oldest of the elders stepped up to read the ceremonies rights to the young couple. As he stood there he saw in amonst the people gathered a man he had never seen in this village before. He was tall slender with silver hair and blood red eyes. his ears were slightly pointed signifying he was a part demon and not a full like him or the others. there was an odd hunger in his eyes as he looked up at the four people who were now in the center of attention. maybe it was his imagination but he almost felt like he heard a snickering near him. like the wind had suddenly decided to laugh at him. he turned his gaze away from the man towards rynn a soft sad smile crossing his lips until a second later when his throat was slashed by the mysterious man. The being with his long silver hair splattered the blood of Serin everywhere he was dead...for now...the entity then in a second flash did the same to Coden and the elder before rounding on Rynn his blade at her neck. He was as swift as any wolf demon but he smelled of cat.
"Long time no see...Celena" he whispered into her ear as he grabbed her around the waist and pushed his blade into her neck. "Did you miss me my princess..." he said delicately like a lover would his lips barely parted. some of the villagers had run from the scene by now but those who stayed were either frozen in fear or taking up weapons.
Rynn screamed when Serin was killed, tears coming to her eyes. "NO!" She called, unable to control herself as she watched him die, Rynn wanted to collapse and cry but before she could the priest was dead, and then her fiance was too. Rynn would have run in shock and fear, but she was trapped. "What are you talking about? Celena? That is not my name!" Rynn yelled, fighting fiercely against him, her claws digging into his skin.
"Who the hell are you... why did you kill dear Serin? And my fiance!??!" Rynn demanded, the tears abating for a moment as she dealt with the issue at hand.
